Glendive is located in eastern Montana, approximately 30 miles from the North Dakota border and serves as the county seat for Dawson County. Glendive is tucked between the Beautiful and rugged Badlands of Makoshika State Park and the Yellowstone River, and is considered the hub city of the rich inland agricultural area of eastern Montana and western North Dakota.

The Yellowstone River bisects Glendive where people take for granted the view crossing the river's bridges to access grocery stores and shopping. The vistas reflect the Big Sky country where by night you see more stars than you dreamed possible and by day, see the rugged badlands of Makoshika State Park that unfold from the south edge of town. You are in prehistoric country where finding dinosaur fossils is a common as finding agates on the Yellowstone. Glendive is the gateway to the Montana Dinosaur trail with two extraordinary sites, The Makoshika Dinosaur Museum and Makoshika State Park.

Large grain farms and ranches abound. Glendive's main street is one-sided with a massive railroad yard and roundhouse on the other side. Makoshika State Park, one of the most impressive badlands areas in America, borders the southern edge of Glendive. It is not only attractive with its highly unusual rock formations, but is a virtual warehouse of prehistoric fossils, mineral specimens and dinosaur bones.

Historic Bell Street Bridge, first built in 1894, destroyed by an 1899 ice jam and rebuilt between 1924 and 1926, is one of the longest of its kind in Montana. It has been preserved for its engineering accomplishment and significant role in the commercial development of the area. An annual September celebration commemorates the local landmark. Work is in progress to return it to its original glory. New glowing street lamps guide visitors along its path, now a pedestrian walkway.

Choice Montana agates are plentiful, as well as fossil remains of prehistoric creatures and Indian artifacts. Montana moss agates occur in creek bottoms, gravel beds, and along the banks of the Yellowstone River running through Glendive. The area is renowned worldwide for the quality and abundance of the plume and moss agates found on its shores.

The Glendive area offers almost unlimited opportunity to develop value added agriculture, energy resource development and economic tourism. Plus this central part of Eastern Montana offers two additional sought after resources, those being open space and human capital. The open space resource provides for quality of life as well as room for business expansion. The human capital resource consists of a hardworking, stable, educated, highly ethical workforce. Survey research results indicate that this workforce is willing to travel to Glendive from distances of up to 75 miles for good paying jobs.
